The BMW Isetta was a microcar produced by the German manufacturer BMW from 1955 to 1962. The car is most famous for its unusual front entrance door, which also served as the car’s steering wheel.
The 1959 version of the Isetta was powered by a 298cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine, which produced 13 horsepower. The car had a top speed of around 53 miles per hour and could achieve around 50 miles per gallon.
Despite its small size, the Isetta was surprisingly spacious inside, comfortably seating two people and offering plenty of room for luggage. This made it popular as a city car and for commuting.
In addition to its practicality, the Isetta was also noteworthy for its distinctive design. The car’s egg-shaped body featured a single headlight on top and a distinctive grille that resembled a smiling face, earning it the nickname “bubble car.”
