The Toyota Sports 800 was a small sports car produced by Toyota from 1965 to 1969. It was designed as Toyota’s first stand-alone sports car and was built to comply with Japan’s kei car regulations, which restricted vehicle dimensions and engine size.
The car was powered by a 800cc two-cylinder engine that produced 45 horsepower. It had a top speed of 100mph and could accelerate from 0-60mph in 14 seconds. The car was available with either a four-speed manual or two-speed automatic transmission.
The Sports 800 had a distinctive design that featured a long hood, a rounded front grille, and a tapering rear end. The car’s lightweight design, with its fiberglass body and aluminum skin, allowed it to achieve impressive handling and performance.
Despite its small size, the Toyota Sports 800 achieved notable success in motorsport, winning the 1966 Suzuka 500km race and setting records in the Fuji 24-hour race.
